Gateway Testing

There is no formal LoRa Alliance certification test for LoRaWAN gateways. However, the LoRa Alliance has issued two documents to assist in testing and deploying gateways on LoRaWAN networks. They are:

The Gateway Test and Measurement Guidelines identify a list of tests and procedures for measuring the physical layer performance of gateways on a LoRaWAN network.  It also defines specific RF parameters and provides guidelines on how to measure them so that all gateways can be evaluated in a consistent manner and the results can be compared easily.

The main parameters tested are:

  • TX Operation and Survival with Open/Short Load
  • Measured and Reported RF Transmit Power
  • TX Conducted Emissions Out-of-Band
  • TX Intermodulation
  • TX Frequency Error
  • RX Sensitivity
  • RX Dynamic Range
  • RX In-Band Blocking/Selectivity
  • RX Out-of-Band Blocking/Selectivity
  • RX Intermodulation

LoRaWAN® Gateways: Radio Coexistence Issues and Solutions covers best usage practices and, with respect to radio coexistence issues, identifies mutual interference phenomena that may occur when deploying an outdoor gateway co-located with other emitters. It also provides solutions for fixing or minimizing these issues.
