Understanding End Devices
To begin our hardware discussion, let’s start with the end devices. End devices on a LoRaWAN network send and receive data packets to and from gateways.
Each device consists of the following hardware components:
- The Microcontroller Unit (or MCU) - the brain of the device
- A power supply
- Peripherals, such as sensors
- The LoRa® radio
- The antenna
End devices also require software to be able to work on a LoRaWAN network. Three layers of software come into play:
- Application layer
- Middleware layer
- Driver layer
To get a better understanding of end devices on a LoRaWAN network, take a few minutes to watch this video.
