End-Device Certification

Certifying your end devices ensures that they adhere to the LoRaWAN L2 and Regional Parameter standards, and, therefore, will be compatible with LoRaWAN networks worldwide.

Testing an End Device for Certification

LoRaWAN End Device Certification from the LoRa Alliance consists of automated testing that is competitively priced and designed to maximize testing coverage in the shortest amount of time possible.

  1. There are LoRa Alliance Certification Authorized Test Houses (ATHs) located around the world to provide testing services as near to developers as possible for any region.
  2. The Certification test does NOT cover any local or regional regulatory testing. Regulatory testing must be obtained separately.
  3. In addition to the Certification tests that concentrate on the LoRaWAN protocol, there is a separate RF Performance test procedure, added at the request of operators, for determining the output power and sensitivity of an end device.
  4. The Certification test sends and receives more than 2,000 messages with a standard packet forwarder running on a LoRaWAN gateway. It tests both Over-the-Air Activation (OTAA) and Activation by Personalization (ABP).
  5. Because no physical connection to the devices being tested is required, devices are certified in their normal operating configurations. This test sends LoRaWAN packets via the gateway for all communication
  6. The Certification test also includes Packet Error Rate (PER) tests with the end device and gateway housed in an anechoic chamber. To pass the PER tests, the error rate can be no higher than five percent.
  7. Test houses are authorized by the LoRa Alliance. Currently there are six authorized test houses, with 17 worldwide locations.
  8. Test Certificates are issued by the LoRa Alliance and certified products are displayed on the LoRa Alliance Website: https://www.lora-alliance.org/certified-products.
  9. The LoRaWAN Certification tests are specified in the Certification Specification and are carried out against each version of the LoRaWAN L2 Specification and appropriate region(s), as defined in the Regional Parameters documents.
  10. Certified Devices are indicated with the LoRaWAN CertifiedCM Certification Mark, which is registered worldwide.
