Helium Network Overview and Basics

LoRaWAN Networks Versus the Helium Network

Sensor and device endpoint compatibility

From a general LoRaWAN sensor or device perspective, the Helium network is compatible and behaves as any other LoRaWAN network. However, like all LoRaWAN networks, the specific LoRaWAN release version (1.0.x) and device class mode support (Class A, B, or C) must be aligned. As of April 2022, the Helium Console/Router (LoRaWAN network server) is compatible with LoRaWAN v.1.0.2 and supports Class A devices. As more commercial network server solutions become available for the Helium network, support for Class B and Class C devices may be added within portions of the Helium network footprint.

More general information on the capabilities of the different LoRaWAN device class modes (Classes A, B, and C) can be found at LoRaWAN Academy.
