Helium Network Overview and Basics

LoRaWAN Networks Versus the Helium Network

LoRaWAN is the global low-power, wide area network (LPWAN) standard created by the LoRa Alliance®. It provides the core technical protocol stacks for devices, LoRaWAN network gateways, and backend services. Detailed specifications can be found at: https://resources.lora-alliance.org/.

Supporters of the Helium network and blockchain adopted the core LoRaWAN standard for endpoint devices, maintaining full compatibility with the LoRaWAN specification for the devices. The Helium blockchain was integrated into the network by augmenting LoRaWAN network gateways (Helium Hotspots), customizing the backend network server implementation via Helium Router, and creating the public Helium blockchain.
