LoRa® on-premise - at Home and in the Office documentation

Hardware and software requirements

To complete this lab, you will need the following hardware and software.

Hardware required for the gateway

Sensors

The idea behind this lab is to use readily available, low-cost sensors that could be useful in the home.

Purchase the following devices for your region:

  • Browan Door & Window Sensor (U.S. , EU)

  • Browan PIR Motion Sensor (U.S. , EU)

  • Browan Temperature & Humidity Sensor (U.S. , EU)

Warning

Be sure not to turn on or otherwise activate your end devices until after you’ve added them to the system through the ChirpStack gateway admin web app. Connecting the battery on these devices will cause them to try and retry joining and can drain the battery. In other words, for now, do not pull the tab on your device since this will connect the battery.

Software

The only software you’ll need for this lab is balenaEtcher, used to flash the ChirpStack OS image onto the Micro SD Card.

In the next section, you will learn how to install and configure the ChirpStack gateway software on the Raspberry Pi.
