Different Operators, Different Network Requirements

Different operators have different network requirements for allowing end devices on their networks.

Network operators running country-wide networks have designed their networks to provide full coverage based on the devices’ ability to provide a certain output power. For example, some of the operators in Europe will accept devices on their networks that can provide at least 12dB.  Others have set the limit lower or higher to ensure that any device will have full coverage in the area. This network coverage is one of the important factors to be included as part of the networks’ Service Level Agreements (SLA) offered by the operator to its customers. For example, operators in Europe use the LoRaWAN® End Device Radiated RF Performance guidelines for the LoRa Alliance. For more information, see the EU Operators Guidance tab on the LoRa Alliance Certification web page: https://lora-alliance.org/lorawan-certification/

Hence, when designing and manufacturing end devices for use in a variety of different environments, it is worth making sure that the device can provide the maximum allowable output power for the region it is where it will be deployed.
